1. The GMA Topic Breakdown (The "Brain Teaser" Section)
These topics test your mental agility and how fast you can "crack the code" of a puzzle.

- Weightage: GMA usually accounts for 12–15 questions (30–37.5 marks).
- The "Low-Hanging Fruit": Unlike the Number System (which is getting very tough), GMA topics like Direction Sense, Coding, and Blood Relations are still relatively easy. You must solve these to pass.
- The "Time Trap": Topics like "Missing Numbers in a Matrix" can be dangerous. If you don't see the pattern in 30 seconds, you might waste 5 minutes. Importance lies in knowing when to skip.
3. The "New Trend" in GMA (2022–2024)
UPSC has stopped asking simple questions. They are now "Hybridizing" GMA:
- GMA + Permutations: Instead of a simple "Number Series," they ask: "How many such series are possible using digits 1, 2, and 3?"
- GMA + Data Sufficiency: They won't ask "Who is the tallest?" They will ask: "Is Statement 1 enough to find who is the tallest?"
- Visual Reasoning is GONE: Mirror images, paper cutting, and "find the hidden figure" are almost 0% important now. Don't waste time on them.
4. Strategic Importance for May Prelims
If your Math (Numeracy) is weak, GMA is your Lifeline.
- RC (Comprehension) + LR (Reasoning) + GMA = The safest path to 67 marks.
- GMA topics you CANNOT skip:
- Calendars: (Very high chance for May 2025).
- Directions Sense: (Always 2 questions, very easy).
- Coding-Decoding: (1–2 questions, high accuracy).
- Blood Relations: (1–2 questions, high accuracy).
